2024 State Cost Calculator
Dall Sheep
- Non-residents are required to contract with a guide prior to applying.
- Aside from the TOK management area, most draw units limit the number of hunters accessing an area and does not necessarily mean better trophy potential.
- It will cost about $20,000 for an outfitter whether you draw the tag or book an OTC tag.
Mountain Goat
- Non-residents are required to contract with a guide prior to applying.
- Permits are managed as registration hunts or draw hunts. Depending on the outfitter you select for this hunt, you may need to apply in the draw. It is important to select the style of hunt you would like before you decide if you need to be in the draw (e.g. boat based, backpack, fly-in hunt, early vs. late season).
Bison
- All bison permits are difficult to draw in Alaska and are allocated through the draw.
- Free-ranging bison hunts are not for the faint of heart and some require fly-in transport services to access bison units.
- Outfitters are available for some draw hunts.
AK-Yukon Moose
- All non-resident moose draw hunts are managed to reduce non-resident participation, not to produce trophy quality bulls.
- If you apply for a moose draw, be prepared to hunt an area that may have high resident hunting pressure.
- Most Alaska moose hunts take place in open harvest ticket areas and do not require a draw permit.
Roosevelt Elk
- The highest success elk hunts take place on Raspberry and Afognak Islands near Kodiak Island. Even mature bulls will rarely score over 260”, but they are true, free-ranging Roosevelts.
- Expect $5,000-$8,000 for a self-guided hunt if you draw a permit, with guided hunts being almost 2x the cost.
Caribou
- Most hunts are managed as over-the-counter permit hunts. Only a handful of units are draw only. These units have slightly better trophy potential because of the limited number of hunters.
- Outfitters are available for these hunts, but they can be hunted self-guided if you choose.
Brown/Grizzly Bear
- Non-residents are required to contract with a guide prior to applying.
- Almost all brown bear hunts take place in open registration or over-the-counter areas. The exceptions are for a few limited draw areas, including Kodiak and Unimak Island.
- To apply for Kodiak hunts, you must apply with your outfitter as it has its own unique application system.
- To apply for Unimak Island (unit 10), we have Endorsed Outfitters that can get you a contract to complete and then we can apply you. Most grizzly bear permits are easy to come by as well and do not require you to apply in the draw.
- Almost all brown/grizzly bear hunts in Alaska should be booked 1-3 years in advance.
- Spring Brown Bear hunts will not occur this upcoming spring, but in the spring of the following year.
Black Bear
- Almost all of Alaska is open to black bear hunting with over-the-counter permits. However, some high-demand areas, particularly in southeast Alaska, are managed as draw hunts for unguided, non-resident hunters.
- Let us know if you are planning a self-guided hunt in units 1-3 (Prince of Wales Island, Kuiu Island, Kupreanof Island, etc.).
Greenland Muskox
- All muskox permits for non-residents are only available through the draw.
- A guide is not required, but you will need to hire a transporter and be prepared for $8,000-$10,000 in total travel, hunt, and tag costs to have a successful hunt on Nunivak Island (unit 18).
- A fall hunt where boats are used is available as well as a mid-winter hunt where snowmobiles are primarily used.
AZ Sheep
- Desert and Rocky Mountain Sheep points are not separate. If you draw either species, your sheep points will revert to 0.
AZ Deer
- Mule Deer and Coues Deer points are not separate. If you draw either species, your deer points will revert to 0.
